DIGITAL SOLUTION FOR ALL COACHES

INTRODUCTION

Sport has always been a big part of people’s lives and in this modern way of living, everything is being digitalized. Coaches have more and more responsibilities and roles, from teaching individuals how to do sports, simultaneously raising them and doing all the paperwork. The question arises, how can we make it easier for them, so they don’t have to write it all down in a notebook and carry it with them all the time? We designed an app to track attendance and create reports much easier and faster than before.

Challenge

To design a digital product that will enable users of all
ages to easily track attendance and create reports.

USER INTERVIEWS

In order to gather expert insights, we conducted user interviews specifically with sports coaches. These interviews allowed us to tap into their wealth of knowledge and experience in the field. Through their valuable perspectives, we gained a deeper understanding of the unique challenges, preferences, and requirements that coaches face in their daily routines.
My team and I conducted 3 user interviews and these are some of the questions we asked:

Pain points

  1. Carrying a notebook with them at all time.
  2. Creating different types of reports.

Can you describe your typical training?

How many teams do you train?

How many different types of training do you conduct?

Can you tell me how you track attendance?

How often do you write a report?

USER PERSONAS

Fictional name:

Albert Fitness

Occupation:

Accountant and fitness coach

Demographics:
  • 35 years old
  • Lives in Rijeka, Croatia, with his fiancee
  • Takes care about his old mother
  • Has an upper-middle-income level

Goals and needs:

Albert wants a world that is more digitalized. As an accountant, he finds himself in situations where he is cluttered
with papers. He is trying to shift everything he can on electronical devices.

Frustrations

Sometimes he has training in the woods which means he needs to have his coach diary on him.
This is impractical because it can get wet in the rain, it can be swept away, lost, etc.

STYLE GUIDE

After a quite amount of time trying to create a perfect logo, we went with this simple but effective logo which represents A for attendance. A is split in two parts and when you turn one part around, it becomes a check mark.

When you think of sports and teams, at least for us, blue and red are colors that instantly come across our mind. Red is by nature a little bit harsh and intrusive so we decided to pick a blue, but to make it a little bit interesting, we chose a combination of a blue closer to purple and sky blue.

We wanted to keep it simple with typography so we chose a san-serif typeface, Poppins.

DESIGN

This app is targeting a lot of different age groups and users with different levels of tech-literacy so it is designed to be very easy to use.

ADD TEAM

When user signs up, first he need to create his team. After that, enter his team name and add team members. If a user already has an excel file with a list of team members, he/she can import it instead of writing all the members down. If a user has more than one team, he can add as many as he wants.

ADD ACTIVITY

For a more personalized approach, the user can add activities to his team, like interval training or game day, and it will appear on the main screen so he can track attendance for those activities.

TRACK ATTENDANCE

On the attendance screen the user chooses the activity that he wants to track attendance for and, by default, everyone is present. We choose that option because there is always more present than absent people at a training, so we wanted to make it easy for coaches to mark just the ones that are absent. There is also an option to add a reason for the presence/absence of the member.

COLLABORATE WITH
OTHER COACHES

If there is more than one coach in a team, there is an option for a collaboration. Users can send an invite to the other coaches that are also in their team so they can track attendance together.

STATISTICS

Statistics is one of the main features of this app that is very important for coaches. Having everything at one place and having the ability to export group or single member statistic reports, no matter what period of time, is making coaches’ lives easier. And that is what we hoped we would do!

MEMBERSHIP

While conducting user interviews, one of the interviewees told us that he works with young members that are paying a fee so it would be great to add a feature where users can track who paid a monthly membership. We thought that this is a great idea so we added that feature also.
