Google announces standalone VR headsets

On the first day of the recent Google I/O developer conference, the company announced they have partnered up with HTC, Lenovo and Qualcomm to develop standalone virtual reality headsets.

Unlike the previous Google VR devices, the new headsets will feature positional tracking allowing the headset to determine its position according to the environment around it. The positioning system is called WorldSense and boasts 6 degrees-of-freedom so the user can move freely instead of looking around from a fixed point.
